Jan Christoph studied Bioinformatics, completing both his Bachelor and Master of Science in Bioinformatics at Saarland University. He then pursued a second Master’s degree in Medical Process Management at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, where he also worked as a research assistant at the Chair of Medical Informatics. In 2019, he earned his doctorate in Human Biology, specializing in Medical Informatics. His primary focus is to make patient data routinely collected in hospitals usable for research, with a particular emphasis on improving cancer treatment using bioinformatics methods. For instance, by comparing tumor cells with healthy neighboring cells, he aims to derive individualized therapies based on the differences and insights obtained. In May 2021, Jan Christoph was appointed Junior Professor of Biomedical Data Science at the University Medical Center Halle (Saale).
